How to Clean and Maintain Your Tackboards

By: Rick Gomory, Content Marketing Manager

Calyx by Claridge tackboard products are available in a wide range of design options, offering performance, style, and value to suit any situation. Below we will detail the exact steps you can take to clean our five different types of tack surfaces and keep them looking sharp in your space.

Calyx Cork

When you begin to notice dirt and grime starting to build up on your Calyx Cork surface you can wash it with household soap or a mild detergent. After that rinse with clean water, remove any of the excess water, and then allow to dry completely before using it again.

For more stubborn stains such as colored crayon, oil, tape marks, etc. you can use a cleaning fluid such as alcohol or even WD-40 but always follow proper safety procedures when using solvents. After using these methods be sure to rinse the cork and then allow it to dry.

Note that when cleaning abrasive and/or alkaline cleaners should be avoided so as not to damage the surface.

Fabric

Calyx by Claridge offers numerous color options in fabrics from Maharam, Carnegie, and Guilford which can all be cleaned with these simple procedures. For dust, lint, and other particles that can adhere to the surface you can use a garment brush/roller or a tacky surface such as the back side of cellophane tape to remove them. Spots that become dirty can be cleaned by using a sponge and a mild household detergent such as Woolite.

When it comes to crayons, grease, or ink stains, the tack surface can be spot cleaned with lighter fluid containing naphtha to remove the solvent soluble matter, it sounds a little crazy but this method was even promoted by the housekeeping queen herself Martha Stewart. Any remaining stains can then be removed by shampooing the fabric using a household upholstery cleaner.

One thing to keep in mind is that you should not over saturate the surface with too much water, detergent, or cleaners as doing so may cause damage to the backing under the fabric.

Acoustics

Over the course of time dust and other particle debris can gather on the surface of your acoustic material and that can be easily removed using an ordinary vacuum. For dirt and stains you can use polyester carpet and fabric cleaner but be sure to test an inconspicuous spot first as some products have the potential to affect the look of colored materials.

Fabricrok

Fabricork is actually a stain resistant vinyl material so it is one of the easiest to clean. Simply use household soap or mild detergent mixed with water but make sure to avoid harsh abrasive cleaners and rough sponges as they may cause dulling of the surface.

Tan Nucork

When you picture the average tackboard in your mind, you are probably thinking about our Tan Nucork surface. Soil and dirt can be removed by lightly sanding with a very fine sandpaper or erasing with art gum. Tan Nucork is not quite as dense as our Calyx Cork so be gentle when rubbing the surface to avoid pitting issues.
